Americano and rotating-partner generator
A new partner every round, opponents spread evenly, and everyone ranked on their own points. Mixed doubles too.
How the rotation works
Each round, players are paired into doubles teams and the teams play on the available courts. Partners change every round: over a full cycle you partner every other player once. With 4, 5, 8, 12, 13, 16 or 20 players the schedule is perfect — everyone also faces every other player exactly twice.
Other sizes never repeat a partner within a cycle; opponents and rests are spread as evenly as the numbers allow.
Rests
Doubles needs groups of four. With 9 players, one rests each round; with 10, two rest. Rests rotate so nobody sits out twice in a row when it can be avoided, and everyone rests the same number of times (±1).
Mixed doubles
Turn on mixed doubles and enter two lists — for example men and women. Every pair has one player from each list, and everyone partners each player in the other list once. If the lists differ in size, the extra players in the larger list rest in turn.
Scoring and standings
Most Americanos play each game to a fixed total — 16, 21, 24 or 32 points — and rank players on the points they personally scored. Wins and point difference break ties. You can switch to win/loss scoring if you prefer.
Americano or Mexicano?
Americano plans every round in advance, so you can print the whole session. Mexicano pairs each round from the live leaderboard, so games get closer as the session goes on.
FAQ
How many rounds should I play?
One full cycle: players − 1 rounds for an even number (7 rounds for 8 players), or one per player for an odd number. You can play fewer or more.
How many courts do I need?
One court per four players: 8 players need 2 courts, 12 need 3. With fewer courts the generator schedules games in waves.
Can I run it for pickleball or tennis?
Yes. Choose your sport for sensible timings; the rotation works for any doubles sport.
